Part I: DNA & Genetics gives a brief overview of the basic tests for genetic genealogy, how they differ, and how they are applied to your family tree. There is an optional quiz at the end.
Part II: Doing a yDNA Test describes the process of doing a FTDNA test, which is the same process you would follow for any FTDNA test if you are a new tester. The focus is on FTDNA's Y DNA STR products.
Part III: Understanding and Navigating Basic Y STR Results discusses basic concepts like STRs and SNPs. You'll see what your Y STR test results look like in your account and shows various Y STR results from real cases and their possible interpretations. THIS IS THE LONGEST PART. You'll want to peruse it several times. There is an optional quiz at the end.
Part IV: Understanding and Navigating Y SNP Results gives more detail on SNPs, compares the SNP tests available at FTDNA, and illustrates what you'll see in your account when you take the Big Y test.
Part V: Sharing your Y SNP results with other projects describes sharing your Big Y results with haplogroup project administrators as well as YFull, an interpretation lab in Russia. It describes genomic industry standard file formats and what you need to open an account at YFull. This is entirely optional on your part.
